Resumen

New challenges require new solutions. This is especially true when we talk about citrus water and nutrient management in Florida. One of the main effects of HLB in citrus is the reduced capacity for the roots to uptake water and nutrients. Then, it is imperative to promote citrus management strategies that help us slow down the movement of water in Florida sandy soils and make irrigation more efficient. A new study, currently being conducted by Dr. Sandra Guzman Smart Irrigation and Hydrology (UF-SIAH) lab at the University of Florida Indian River Research and Education Center (IRREC), is analyzing fabric mulch ground covers as a best management practice (BMP) to optimize the uptake of water in young lemon trees at a commercial field.
