Abstract

This document discusses the introduction of the Actual Production History (APH) policy for Florida citrus growers by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency (RMA) in 2022. The APH policy allows growers to insure their crops based on historical yield records, offering higher guarantees compared to the Dollar Amount policy. The article compares the performance of APH and Dollar Amount policies for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, highlighting that APH provided higher average indemnities and payoffs. It also addresses considerations for growers when choosing crop insurance policies, particularly in light of catastrophic weather events and the impact of HLB on citrus yields.
