Abstract
Foreclosure is the legal process a lender uses to acquire a borrower’s property after the borrower has failed to meet the mortgage contract obligations. The lender seizes the property and sells it to pay off your mortgage. Foreclosure can ruin your credit rating for years. This publication discusses steps to take to prevent foreclosure on your home. Written by Judy Corbus, Johanna Gomez-Gonzalez, Michael Gutter, and Virginia Peart, and published by the UF/IFAS Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences, revised December 2022.
