Abstract
This document provides an overview of Adam’s needle, a slow-growing native plant found in the southeastern United States. This evergreen shrub features sharp, spine-tipped leaves with filamentous threads along the margins and can grow up to 3 feet tall. In summer, it produces a tall, showy flower spike with white blossoms. Adam’s needle thrives in USDA hardiness zones 7B through 10, preferring well-drained soils and partial shade to full sun. The document highlights its uses in landscaping as a specimen plant, ground cover, or border accent, and notes its high drought tolerance and minimal pest issues. First published Oct. 1999.
