Abstract

This document provides an overview of the Philodendron bipennifolium, commonly known as the horsehead or fiddleleaf philodendron. It describes the plant’s distinctive features, including its large, shiny, olive green leaves shaped like a violin or horse’s head. The plant thrives in USDA hardiness zones 10B through 11 and is suitable for indoor growth or cascading down walls. It requires well-drained soil and can tolerate moderate drought but is sensitive to pests and diseases. Propagation is typically done through cuttings or layering. The document also highlights the plant’s moderate growth rate, coarse texture, and its ability to grow in both bright light and deep shade. Original publication date October 1999.
