Abstract

This document is about a hypothetical framework for future US-Cuban sugar relations, focusing on competition and complementarity issues once trade resumes. It aims to identify policy options to minimize competition and emphasize trade and investment opportunities. The research, supported by the MacArthur Foundation, is a collaboration between the University of Florida and the University of Havana. It includes a diagnostic study of sugar industries in Cuba and Florida, examining economic reforms in Cuba and potential foreign investments. The document also discusses the impact of international trade agreements and the future prospects of the sugar agro-industrial sectors in both regions. First published May 2000.
