Résumé

The development of cross-disciplinary exercises for use in 3rd/junior-year design courses is reviewed in this paper. Projects for joint chemistry/chemical engineering and chemical/mechanical engineering assignments are presented, along with an assessment of their effectiveness as tools for the teaching of basics of chemical engineering design.

Brian Glennon, University College Dublin

Brian Glennon is a lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University College Dublin, where he received a BE and PhD in Chemical Engineering. Prior to joining the staff of UCO in 1995, he worked for four years in a variety of positions with Merck Sharp and Dohme in Ireland. He teaches principally in the areas of design and separation processes. His research activities focus on crystallization, biochemical engineering, and distillation.
