John M. Prausnitz, Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, has devoted most of his professional career to phase equilibria as required for process design. His undergraduate education was at Cornell University, and he received his PhD from Princeton, which also gave him an honorary Doctor of Science degree two years ago. Author or coauthor of more than 500 technical publications, he is the senior author of the widely used text Molecular Thermodynamics of Fluid-Phase Equilibria.
