Experiments to Demonstrate Chemical Process Safety Principles
Resumen
Chemical process safety is now recognized as an essential component of undergraduate Chemical Engineering programs. Students' understanding of chemical process safety can be significantly improved through hands-on experiences. To this end, we describe four experiments that can either be conducted in a dedicated chemical process safety course, in a unit operations laboratory course, or elsewhere in the curriculum. Specifically, experiments are described that address the principles of explosions, runaway reactions, electrostatics, flammability, and relief design.
