Abstract
This paper addresses some of the student issues that affect learning. The focus is student motivation, learning styles, and attitudes toward different teaching styles. The key message is that students have different learning styles, which should be adequately targeted by our teaching styles. The paper is written from the perspective of a starting professor who acknowledges the complexity of life in academia, but who is also committed to succeed in his teaching and research activities.
