Abstract

A fundamental result of linear systems theory is shown to extend the meaning of frequency response to unstable systems. A simple example is used to illustrate the general idea and also to demonstrate how the frequency response of unstable systems may in principle be measured. Further, some common pitfalls in the use of the Nyquist stability criterion are pointed out, thus clarifying its application.
