Flashback and Laminar Flames: A Classroom Demonstration

Abstract

Classroom bench-level demonstrations always enhance a lecture and stimulate student interest. Simple but effective demonstrations are best.  An easy demonstration on vapor flammability is described in this article.

Ronald Willey is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University. He is a member of SACHE (Safety and Chemical Engineering Education) and a director in the AIChE Safety and Health Division.
