Abstract

The conversion of individual student scores (e.g., examinations, course totals) to letter grades is an exercise often required of an instructor.  Guidelines are presented here for sophomore-, junior- and senior-level engineering courses; these guidelines are based upon the mean and standard deviation figures for the data of interest.  A comparison of the guidelines for senior-level courses with seven years of historical data for such a course is also shown.
