Using MATLAB/Simulink for Data Acquisition and Control
Abstract
MATLAB's graphical simulation interface is adapted for real-time data acquisition and control. This allows students to incorporate Simulink's powerful control and signal processing functions into a control strategy for a physical system. A sampling period of one second or greater is required, but this is compatible with typical process control lab experiments. Advanced techniques, such as Model Predictive Control, are easy to implement. Other advantages and disadvantages of the approach are discussed. The software is available at no charge for classroom use.
