An Undergraduate Course in Applied Probability and Statistics

Abstract

The philosophy and structure of a second-year undergraduate course in applied probability and statistics for chemical engineering and chemical/environmental engineering is described. The flavor of its content is illustrated by seven numerical examples related to topics discussed in lectures or tutorials.

Thomas Z. Fahidy, University of Waterloo

Thomas Z. Fahidy is Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo (Canada). He obtained his BSc and MSc degrees at Queen 's University (Kingston, Ontario) and his PhD at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His major research and teaching interests are in applied electrochemistry, electrochemical engineering, applied engineering mathematics, and applied probability and statistics.
