Advisors Who Rock: An Approach to Academic Counseling
Abstract
If a student makes a meaningful connection to a faculty member, he or she is more likely to remain in engineering. As faculty members, we have many opportunities to be that meaningful connection. Often this happens in the context of advising. This article describes the approach taken by a coordinator of academic advising in an engineering department at a large public university and offers suggestions to improve advising effectiveness.
