About the Journal
The Florida Journal of Educational Research (FJER) is published by the Florida Educational Research Association (FERA). The purpose of FJER is to facilitate communication among educators, policy-makers, and researchers in the state of Florida and beyond. Although the Journal is the primary publication of FERA, manuscripts submitted by both members and nonmembers of the association will be considered for publication. FJER has been published since 1959, originally as a print journal distributed to all members of FERA. In 1996, the journal began to publish online articles and is now exclusively published online as an open-access academic journal.
Articles for consideration should report the results of research conducted in Florida or address issues important to the Florida education research community. They should not be previously published and can employ a variety of methodologies including quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods studies and conceptual, theoretical, policy, and systematic analyses. FJER is a double-blind peer-reviewed academic journal with editorial decisions typically made within two months of submission, based on the reviews of two to three members of the editorial board. Since December 2017, FJER has tracked the number of article downloads for individual FJER articles.
FJER publishes original research, literature reviews, implementation and evaluation studies, and theoretical, conceptual, and policy papers that contribute to our understanding of the issues, problems, and research associated with educational environments. Articles for consideration do not have to originate from the state of Florida. Articles should be 5,000 to 7,000 words in length. While the acceptance rate of the journal varies from year to year, our approximate acceptance rate is 25% – 45%.
MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE EDITOR
Dear Authors, Reviewers and Readers,
The Florida Journal of Educational Research (FJER) was launched by the Florida Educational Research Association (FERA) more than 60 years ago. FJER is a scholarly, refereed journal with a Florida perspective, reflected both in the profile of our contributors and the focus of their articles and in our readership.
We invite submissions of articles that take a problem-focused, critical approach to research and practice, and that explore new approaches and perspectives on lifelong learning and educational practices. We especially encourage studies conducted in Florida or that focus on issues important to the Florida region and educational research community.
Our peer-reviewed process typically includes 2 weeks for an editorial review, 4-weeks for blind peer-review process, and 2-weeks to make editorial decisions.
On occasion, FJER publishes special issues for papers that were presented at the annual meeting, or on topics that are of broad-based significance for the field of education research and that deserve attention and diffusion.
All FJER editorial board members have vast educational research and practice experience. Please email us a current Curriculum Vitae or resumé at mvasque3@fau.edu if you are interested in joining the editorial board or have questions about the journal.
Thank you for considering FJER to publish your research.
Sincerely,
María D. Vásquez, Ph.D.
