摘要

The immature stages of the butterfly Nilgiri Tit Hypolycaena nilgirica Moore, [1884] family Lycaenidae, were studied in the foothills of the Nilgiris, Western Ghats, India. The species’ life cycle on its newly identified host plant Eulophia epidendraea (J.Koenig ex Retz.) C.E.C.Fisch. (Orchidaceae) is reported for the first time in India. The immature stage development, from oviposition to adult eclosion, took approximately 25-32 days. Distribution records of the butterfly species in the region of the type locality are documented and a description of the larval stages is provided. This study provides basic information on the species’ life cycle and host plant in India.
