Scientific Note: Clarification of the nomenclature and distribution of Mania aegisthus (Fabricius, 1781) (Lepidoptera: Geometroidea: Sematuridae)

Resumo

Until recently there has been considerable confusion over the correct nomenclature of the sexually dimorphic moth species in the genus Mania (Sematuridae). In addition, some websites still indicate that Mania aegisthus (Fabricius) occurs in Suriname, whereas this species is confined to the Greater Antillean islands of Cuba, Hispaniola, and Jamaica. This note clarifies the taxonomy and distribution of this species.
