Resumen

Based on biogeography and phylogeny of the Neotropical genus Morpho, and a synthesis of present knowledge on the geodynamics and paleogeography of South America, evolutionary scenarios are proposed to understand the diversification of the genus through time and space. They emphasize the driving role of Andean uplift and subsequent transformations of Amazonia.
