An annotated list of Jamaican butterflies of potential conservation concern
Abstract
Conservation measures needed to prevent extinction of Jamaica’s National Butterfly, the Homerus Swallowtail (Pterourus homerus), and, to a lesser extent, measures needed to protect the endemic Blue Swallowtail (Protographium marcellinus), have been documented from time to time, but there has been no recent or overall assessment of the conservation status of all the island’s butterflies. To correct this omission, we provide a brief summary of all the species of Jamaican butterflies in potential need of conservation measures, pending further studies.
