Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Full articles are approximately 500-1,000 words, and smaller highlights are around 250-500 words.

Author Guidelines

Copyright

Authors retain copyright to their publications. By submitting, authors agree to a Creative Commons Attribution NonCommercial 4.0 International license, as of the Spring 2021 issue. SOURCE issues and contributed articles are made available under a Creative Commons Attribution NonCommercial 4.0 International license, which allows our readers to freely distribute and copy the magazine for noncommercial purposes without permission from the Smathers Libraries or article authors. SOURCE relies on the fair use provision of U.S. Copyright Law to incorporate photographs and other images where copyright is not held by the University of Florida.

Length:

Full articles are approximately 500-1,000 words. Please let us know if more space is needed, or if this is a smaller highlight around 250-500 words.

Manuscript & Image Formatting Instructions:

  • Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word (preferred), RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • If your manuscript includes references, please include URLs and DOIs as appropriate.
  • For optimal quality, figures should be submitted with the manuscript as separate files, not embedded within the manuscript.
  • Please also include a separate document with figure captions and credits as appropriate. Files should be named correspondingly with the lead author's name (example: Johnston_Figure1). If images were not submitted through Florida OJ, please let us know in this supplemental document where to locate them (e.g., in the TEAMS channel, online links, etc.).
  • Acceptable file formats are TIFF (preferred), JPEG, and PNG. Files should be at least 300 dpi and no larger than 600 dpi.
  • If the quantity or file size of your images is a concern, images (only) can be uploaded to our SOURCE Teams Channel (which you will be added to for this Issue) under SOURCE Contributors in the folder “ADD YOUR IMAGES HERE” under Files.
  • We ask that all other files, including your article and other supplemental Word documents, be submitted through Florida OJ and not the SOURCE Teams channel to make it easier to post your article correctly in Florida OJ.
