Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs or DOIs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

  • All submissions to PURANA Media should be made using the online submission form.
  • Authors should follow the Submission Preparation Checklist shown above.
  • Authors should indicate if it is a peer-reviewed research article or another kind of contribution (e.g. field notes, photo essay, short film, exhibition review, reflective essay).
  • Where included in your reference list, write DOIs as full DOI links (i.e., format: https://doi.org/xx.xxxxx/etc.)
  • Include a 150-200 word abstract in English.
  • Follow the guidelines of the Chicago Manual of Style.
  • For references adopt the Author-Date system.
  • Adopt American English spelling.
  • Images should be minimally 300 dpi and include captions.

Artist's Essay

A reflective essay is personal and  introspective. It tells an artist’s personal journey through certain life experiences, while focusing on the artist’s understanding of how those experiences impact the artist's thoughts, feelings, and their work.

    • On the submission form,  in "Comments to the Editor," indicate what type your submission is, e.g. field notes, short film, exhibition review.
