Resumo

Spraying Steinernema carpocapsae ALL and UK strains at a dosage of 5 x 10 nematodes/m in 0.4 L water onto split pseudostems and pseudostem stumps as a baiting technique gave up to 70% mortality of adult Cosmopolites sordidus recovered from traps 7 days after treatment and up to 40% mortality of adults recovered from traps 14 and 21 days after treatment. Overall, the application of nematodes to pseudostem traps gave significantly greater control of weevils than the application of nematodes to soil around banana plants. Results suggest that baiting techniques could be used to control adult banana weevils on a field scale.
