Resistencia de 12 Variedades de Tomate (Lycopersicon esculentum) al Nematodo Nodulador (Meloidogyne javanica) Aislado de Plantas de Tabaco

Resumo

Twelve tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) varities were inoculated with a tobacco isolate of Meloidogyne javanica Treub (Chitwood). Varieties 'Roma', 'Better Boy', 'VFN Bush', 'Ace Hy', 'Monte Carlo', and 'Patriot', were resistant; and 'Early Cascade' showed some tolerance; whereas 'Rutgers', 'Beefsteak', 'Royal Ace', 'Homestead', and 'Manalucie' were completely susceptible to the isolate. According to the International Meloidogyne Project (IMP), 'Manalucie' is resistant to M. javanica, however, two different entries of this variety were highly susceptible to the isolate used in the experiment. The tomato varieties tested as resistant to M. javanica could be used in a crop rotation program with tobacco, under the Venezuelan crop system conditions, to reduce the nematode population, since there is no commercial tobacco variety resistant to this nematode species.
