Abstract

Xorides (Periceros), previously known from Peru, Brasil, and Argentina, now is reported for northeast Mexico. X. (Periceros) cerbonei n. sp. is described from Cola de Caballo near Monterrey, and a key is given to all Neotropic Xorides. Besides Periceros, many other insects traditionally believed restricted to tropical wet forests actually reach northern Mexico. Zoogeographic implications of this distributional pattern are discussed.
