I am writing to let you know about some exciting changes at Florida Entomologist. We are moving from being self-published at Florida Virtual Campus https://journals.flvc.org/flaent/index and BioOne https://bioone.org/journals/florida-entomologist to being published by De Gruyters https://www.degruyter.com/?lang=en. We will of course continue to be open access.

If your paper is in the review stage or in the copyediting stage and has not been scheduled for the December 2023 issue (you would have received notification already), then your paper will be published in 2024 (if accepted). Papers published in 2024 will be published through De Gruyters. To submit a new paper please go to https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/flaent

Florida Entomologist has been doing well, our impact factor has risen to the highest it has ever been (1.4) with a ranking of 48/100 in journals in the subject of entomology and it is one of the highest-ranking US regional society journals. We hope that our move to a new publisher and platform will enable us to better serve our authors and readers and maintain and even elevate our position in the top entomological journals in the United States.

The change in publisher will bring great benefits to our authors, especially with regards to the speed of publication. Once a paper is accepted by the Editor in Chief and the post-acceptance checks have been completed then the paper should be online in one month. We are moving to one issue per volume per year and papers will be assigned an article number, a doi, and published without any further delay.

One change that we would like to bring to your attention is the move to a new Creative Commons Attribution License, from CC-BY-NC (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/) to CC-BY (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). The only difference in the two licenses is that the old license (CC-BY-NC) used to forbid the reproduction of material for commercial purposes, but this is permitted by the new license. Just as before: “users must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. Users may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses the user or their use.”

We are also moving to a simpler charging system from page charges to an article processing charge. The charges for 2024 will be as follows: Euro 1,000/$1,100 for a full-length research publication and Euro 800/$880 for a scientific note (short article). Members will continue to receive a discount on publication: Euro 800/$880 for a full-length research publication and Euro 600/$660 for a scientific note. There will be no additional charges, such as for color figures, BioOne publication etc.

We hope that you will be excited about these changes as we are at the Florida Entomological Society. Please let us know if you are happy to continue. If you have any concerns, please let me know as soon as possible. If I do not hear from you before December 30, 2023, we will assume that you are happy with the changes, wish to continue the publication process and your paper will be processed accordingly.
