Author Guidelines

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • Ensure that your essay is formatted according to the publishing guidelines and has been checked against the Aquila rubric.
  • Ensure that your faculty mentor has reviewed the article against the rubric prior to submission and has signed the Aquila Faculty Verification. The Faculty Verification Form must be uploaded with your submission.
  • Research involving human subjects—including but not limited to: surveying, interviewing, conducting focus groups, etc. involving participants—requires IRB approval or exemption. Your submission must include the IRB protocol number, or evidence of IRB exemption must be submitted with your essay. Submissions to Aquila must comply with IRB standards for publication, even if the research originated as a class project. FGCU has an IRB Committee which approves applications or provides exemptions based on the research conducted. The university’s IRB Committee determines what is and is not exempt, not you or your faculty mentor. Be sure to work with your faculty mentor prior to submission; the IRB Committee may not review applications after the research has been conducted.
