Abstract

Religious organizations have forgotten why they were granted tax exemptions in the first place. Originally the church's mission was to stay humble and help the community by being a place of worship where anyone who comes within the church walls would be helped. The current tax exemptions help churches and religious organizations find loopholes that allows them to pocket millions of dollars without paying any taxes. And this reality also leads to a breach of the first amendment on the separation of church and state. This article will analyze how the church went from being humble to a corporation that exploits the current tax exemptions law, and how we need to reconstruct the current tax exemptions on religious organization.
