The life cycle of the endemic Blue Kite Swallowtail Protographium marcellinus (Doubleday, 1845) (Papilionidae: Leptocircini, Papilioninae) in Jamaica, West Indies, and the urgent need for additional conservation measures
Abstract
The life cycle of the endemic Jamaican Swallowtail Protographium marcellinus Doubleday is described in detail for the first time, including an account of the migratory behavior of the adult. Four small breeding sites are documented along with present threats to destruction of the only known larval food plant at each of these sites. Evidence supporting the need for additional protection for this insect is provided. The IUCN Red Data Book status is reviewed.
