Abstract

The three volumes of "An Illustrated Field Guide" of the "Orchids ofVenezuela" by Dunsterville and Garay, a very useful and handy book for collectors, orchid-growers or scientists, are the stimulating factor to this publication. Even the reasons are the same: the "Orchids ofEl Salvador"-at least the two first volumes-have been out ofprint for several years and a new edition is not considered likely because ofthe high cost of color prints. For these reasons the idea was born to put together a collection ofdrawings-out ofthe more than 1,000 I prepared-which refer to Central American orchids based on the same slogan as used by Dunsterville and Garay, that a good picture is worth a thousand words.
