Abstract
Growth responses ofleaf explants in sterile culture were studi~d for ten taxa chosen from both subfamilies to represent the wide structuralldiversity of the Gesneriaceae: Chirita sinensis Lindl., Streptocarpus saxorum Engl., Streptocarpus 'Constant Nymph,' Saintpaulia ionantha Wendland, in the Cyrtandroideae; and Koellikeria erinoides (DC.) Mansf., X Koellikohl¢ria rosea Wiehl., Nematanthus perianthomegus (VeIl.) H. E.Moore,Sinningia qardinalis (Lehm.) H. E. Moore, Sinningia speciosa (Lodd.) Hiern, and Sinningia tubiflora (Hook.) Fritsch in the Gesnerioideae.
