Abstract

Races of the Potato Cyst Nematode from 11 provinces of the Department of Cusco, Peru were identified. The identification was based on the reaction of the differential clones of the International Scheme of Race classification, including the clone 280090.10 (S. tbr. x S. adg x S. vrn.) which distinguishes race P6A of Globodera pallida, to different nematode populations. Tubers of these clones were planted in 200 cm pots and inoculated with 20 eggs/cm of soil. Multiplication rate [proportion of final egg population/initial egg population (ePf/ePi)] of nematodes was evaluated. Differential clones were considered as non efficient hosts when the multiplication rate (ePf/ePi) was equal to or less than 1, and as efficient hosts when the nematode multiplication rate (ePf/ePi) was more than 1. Results indicate that the populations from the provinces of Acomayo and Quispicanchis consist of race P4A; those from Anta, Espinar, Paruro, Paucartambo locality of Pumapaccha and Urubamba are race P5A,
