Abstract

The reaction of 20 sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) cultivars to Pratylenchus flakkensis was evaluated to determine if some of the tested materials could be used in crop rotation with potatoes in fields infested with this nematode and Meloidogyne incognita. Host efficiency of the cultivars was evaluated in three different trials carried out under greenhouse conditions. Rooted stem cuttings of each cultivar were planted in pots containing soil infested with 396 (first experiment), 496 (second experiment) and 257 (third experiment) nematodes/100 cm None of the evaluated cultivars were efficient hosts (Pf/Pi 1). The cultivar Nemanete showed the highest reproduction rate (0.25) and cultivar Bakongo the lowest (0.11). An increase in storage root weight was observed in the six selected cultivars inoculated with P flakkensis in comparison with the non-inoculated treatments.
