Abstract

During 1986-1987, a survey was conducted in 13 provinces of the Department of Cusco, Peru, to determine the presence of the potato cyst nematode, Globodera spp. Soil samples were collected from 42 localities of the 13 provinces and processed for the presence of the potato cyst nematode utilizing a modified Fenwick can for the extraction of cysts. The results indicated that Globodera was present in 12 of 13 provinces with varying degrees of infestation. Potato fields of the province of Paucartambo (locality of Cotatoclla) had the highest infestation rate. Results of perineal patterns and morphometric studies of second-stage juveniles from the collected cysts indicate the presence of G. pallida in 11 provinces and the presence of mixed populations of G. pallida and G. rostochiensis in the district of Marangani, province of Canchis. No cysts were found in the province of La Convencion. This is the first report of the presence of G. pallida in 12 provinces of the Department of Cusco, Per
