Field evaluations of selected fumigant nematicides and fenamiphos for management of Meloidogyne javanica in flue-cured tobacco were conducted from 1985 to 1988 on the sandy soils of northern Florida, U.S.A. Two were conducted in 1985 and one test yearly thereafter. Chemicals included in two or more of the tests were 1,3-dicholoropropene (1,3-D), methyl isothiocynate (MENCS), 1,3-D-MENCS, chloropicrin, methyl bromide (MBR), and fenamiphos. No consistent pattern emerged in the relative effectiveness of the fumigant nematicides, but in general, all materials increased plant vigor and tobacco yields and reduced root-knot nematode gall indices.
