Nicotiana otophora Griseb accessions 'La Quinta', 'Jujuy', 'Cochabamba I', 'Cochabamba II', and 'Summer Bloomer', were inoculated with Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid & White) Chitwood races 1 and 4. 'La Quinta' showed the highest level of resistance to both races; 'Jujuy' had some tolerance of race 4; and the other accessions were susceptible to both races. Apparently the factor for resistance involved in this material is variable, and it will be necessary to conduct more experiments to determine the genetics of this response and the possibility to introduce the factor into Nicotiana tabacum L. varieties.
