Abstract

To control nematodes in banana, the effect of applying different dosages of different types of nematicide was compared in 4 field experiments. In one experiment, DBCP, a volatile fumigant applied at 6 monthly intervals gave better yield improvement when applied at 10 ml. per plant than did dosages of 3,4 and 5.7 ml.; in another experiment there was no yield difference between dosages of 3.3 or 15 ml. of DBCP. Granular nonvolatile nematicides were applied to plants at 4 monthly intervals; good results were obtained with phenamiphos at 2 to 3 g i.a., carbofuran at 2.5 g i.a. oxamyl at 4 g i.a. and 6 g i.a. but decreased to 3 g i.a. In general granular nematicides were as good as or better than DBCP in improving yields.
