Abstract

The effectivity of the nematicides Liro-fumigant DBE-75 (dibromoethane or ethylene dibromide) and Lirofume (1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane; DBCP0) was evaluated for the control of the root knot nematode (Meloidogyne spp.) in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) seedbeds. The work was carried out in the greenhouse using nematode infected soil. In the treatment with Liro-fumigante DBE-75 at a rate of 6.5 cc/sq m, 5 to 20% infected plants were found with 1 to 12 galls per plant. It was also observed that seedbeds treated with the nematicides suffered less attack by the damping-off fungus.
