Abstract

Kinetics of degradation of fenamiphos in various soil types. Degradation kinetics of fenamiphos were studied in laboratory experiments on soils with different physical and chemical properties, by measuring both the amount of the original nematicide and the amount of metabolites (sulfoxide + sulfone) formed, during a time-span of six weeks. Results obtained show that degradation of fenamiphos can be described by first-order kinetics in the various soil types examined. Both degradation rate constants and half-life time are markedly affected by the physical and chemical properties of the soil. Temperature and moisture content of the soil also have a marked effect on the degradation kinetics of fenamiphos in soil. Finally, soil sterilization appears to reduce considerably the degradation rate of the nematicide.
