Abstract

Sequential development of acid phosphatase activity from the root and shoot of resistant and susceptible tomato cultivars was investigated following inoculation with Meloidogyne incognita. Enzyme activity was lower in the susceptible inoculated cultivar (Pusa Ruby) than its control and higher in the resistant inoculated cultivar (Pusa Nemamukkt). Maximum change in activity was observed in shoot and root respectively of the resistant cultivar 24 and 48 hours after inoculation; thereafter, the per cent increase over control showed a gradual declining trend. Qualitatively, the enzyme separated into two isozymes in root and shoot samples, with no inter-cultivar difference.
