Abstract

Several changes in classification are made in Nearctic taxa of the tribe Byrsopagini (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Entiminae). The genus Pseudorimus Van Dyke, 1934 is here placed as a new junior subjective synonym of Crocidema Van Dyke, 1934. This results in Crocidema granicollis (Van Dyke, 1934), new combination and Crocidema orbicollis (Van Dyke, 1934), new combination. In addition, the Mexican species Amphidees latifrons (Sharp, 1891) is here transferred to Crocidema as Crocidema latifrons (Sharp, 1891), new combination. The genus Melanolemma Van Dyke, 1935 is here placed as a new junior subjective synonym of Peritaxia Horn, 1876. This results in Peritaxia montana (Van Dyke, 1935), new combination. Crocidema attenuata Van Dyke, 1934 is here placed as a species of Peritaxia as Peritaxia attenuata (Van Dyke, 1934), new combination. Peritaxia brevipilis Van Dyke, 1935 is removed from Peritaxia and placed in Dichoxenus
as Dichoxenus brevipilis (Van Dyke), new combination. Plinthodes LeConte, 1876 and Triglyphulus Cockerell, 1906 are here placed as new junior subjective synonyms of Trichalophus LeConte, 1876. This results in Trichalophus foveirostris (Chittenden, 1925), new combination, Trichalophus taeniatus (LeConte. 1857), new combination, Trichalophus ater (LeConte, 1876), new combination and Trichalophus nevadensis (Van Dyke, 1938), new combination. Dirotognathus Horn, 1876 is here placed as a new junior subjective synonym of Lepidophorus Kirby, 1837. This results in Lepidophorus sordidus (Horn, 1876), new combination and Lepidophorus punctatus (Hatch, 1971), new combination. New lectotypes are designated for Deamphus latifrons Sharp, 1891, Peritaxia hispida Horn, 1876, Peritaxia rugicollis Horn, 1876 and Dirotognathus sordidus Horn,1876.
