Abstract

A new species of katydid, Pediodectes monahansensis (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae), is described from the isolated sandhills near Monahans in western Texas (USA). Differences in size, coloration, and characters of the male and female separate this species from other Pediodectes Rehn and Hebard species which occur in West Texas.
