Description of a new stag beetle, Dorcus zhangyiae Zhan, new species (Coleoptera: Lucanidae: Lucaninae), from Xizang, China

Abstract

This study describes a stag beetle, Dorcus zhangyiae Zhan, new species (Coleoptera: Lucanidae: Lucaninae), collected from Motuo County in Xizang, southwestern China. The male of this new species exhibits highly distinctive morphological characteristics, including a prominent horn on the head and other unique features that differentiate it from both related species in the Dorcus katsurai group. The study provides comprehensive descriptions of both male (including different size morphs) and female specimens, with detailed accounts of their external morphology and genitalia.
