Sphaenognathus rojasi Kobayashi and Gao, new species (Coleoptera: Lucanidae), is described from Huanta, Peru, located in the eastern Andean highlands. The new species appears to be closely related to Sphaenognathus monguilloni Lacroix, 1972 and S. kolbei Kriesche, 1919, based on the presence of inward- directed dorsal basal teeth and a basal projection on the underside of the mandibles. However, it can be distinguished by the presence of well-developed preapical teeth and a glossy pronotal surface.
