Distribution and southernmost records of Haroldiellus sallei (Harold, 1863) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Aphodiinae: Aphodiini)

Abstract

Haroldiellus sallei (Harold, 1863) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Aphodiinae: Aphodiini) is a Western Hemisphere surface dung-feeder species with a distribution from the southwestern USA to Colombia. Distribution (literature and examined museum specimens), biogeography, and Colombian records are reported. Furthermore, the distribution and ecosystem association of the species in South American, and on the islands in the Greater Antilles are discussed.

Haroldiellus sallei (Harold, 1863) es una especie americana de la tribu Aphodiini (Scarabaeidae: Aphodiinae) que se alimenta de estiércol superficial y se distribuye desde el suroeste de EE.UU. hasta Colombia. Se informa sobre su distribución (literatura y especímenes de museo examinados), biogeografía y registros colombianos. Además, se discuten la distribución y la asociación ecosistémica de la especie en Sud-américa y en las islas de las Antillas Mayores.
