A taxonomic note on Lecanium vaccinii macrocarpum Goethe, 1884 (Hemiptera: Coccidae): Rationale for nomen dubium status

Abstract

Lecanium vaccinii macrocarpum Goethe, 1884 (Hemiptera: Coccidae) is a subspecies of which the original description is inconsistent with its current taxonomic placement, and its recorded synonymy with other species is questionable. The original type material is likely lost or destroyed. For these reasons, L. vaccinii macrocarpum is proposed to be treated as nomen dubium.
