Our JPIC Special Issue (Volume 10, Issue 2) is now live!

2026-08-31

The latest issue of the Journal of Public Interest Communications, Volume 10, Issue 2, makes a deceptively simple argument: The way we talk about the environment is one of the most consequential forms of public interest communications there is. This open-access special issue gathers original research and practitioner reflections that explore how communicators move audiences on climate, water, and conservation—and why knowing your audience is often as important as the science itself.

Guest-edited by Michael D'Imperio of the University of Florida/IFAS Extension, the issue spans a survey experiment on climate metaphors, a consensus study on stormwater governance, a critical analysis of how future generations are (and aren't) represented in environmental decisions, an archival account of the Love Canal disaster, and two practitioner interviews—one on a place-based watershed program in coastal Florida, and one on a viral reef-protection campaign that reclaimed the "Don't Tread on Me" flag.
