Down draft Faye-Prince-type (alias FP/UV) and updraft miniature CDC-type (alias UP/UV) ultraviolet (UV) light traps were compared with CDC miniature light traps mounted with similar UV light tubes (alias CDC/UV), for collecting Anopheles mosquitoes in the Dominican Republic. The CDC/UV trap (Down draft) was superior to the FP/UV trap in sampling efficiency and in handling. The UP/UV trap was comparable to the CDC/UV in numbers of anophelines captured, but it was less convenient to use.
