In Collier County, Florida, Aedes albopictus was found to freely colonize rural habitats but was constrained in its colonization of urban/suburban environments. When Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus occupied a habitat together, Ae. aegypti populations disappeared in rural areas and remained in the urban habitat. The average number of mosquitoes produced by a site did not significantly differ whether it was rural (mostly Ae. albopictus). urban (mixture of both species), or exclusively Ae. aegypti.
